Python backend and full-stack engineers Engineers who build the server side of a product in Python, with Django, FastAPI or Flask, often with the screens on top, and where in India they are hired. What this role isThe skills it needs The skills at a glance Python Django FastAPI Flask PostgreSQL

Job posts for this role ask most for Python, with Django, FastAPI and Flask as the frameworks, PostgreSQL and SQL for the database, and React for the screens. The full story of what each skill is used for is on the skills page.

Where Python backend engineers are hired Python is everywhere in Indian tech, but most of that Python is data, machine learning or GenAI work. This role is different. A Python backend engineer builds the application itself, the web service, the API, the business rules and the database behind a product. It is a small role, and mostly a product-company one. Its hiring hotspots are the companies that sell software to other businesses and build the whole product in Python. The consulting firms' engineering arms are the other strong hiring hotspot, and the most open to juniors. The GCCs hire Python backend engineers mostly in healthcare and banking. Big tech hardly hires them at all. The staffing firms and hiring platforms place them more readily than most employers. Product companies

Among product companies, Python backend work is mostly B2B. The companies that hire it sell software to other businesses, and many of them build the whole product on Django.

The biggest hiring hotspot is Enterprise SaaS and software, and within it HR tech (who they hire). No industry in the product world hires Python more heavily. Rippling builds its payroll and HR suite on Django, with Postgres, Celery and Redis, and it is one of the largest Python employers in India. Its story is in HR, payroll and workforce management software. Gloroots, Cornerstone OnDemand and Sense build hiring and global employment platforms in Python too. Around them sit ERP and business automation, where Skan AI, Boomi and OneAdvanced build process and integration platforms, the finance department, with BlackLine, Trintech and Flexera, and sales, with 6sense and Loopio. This is mostly senior work.

Python is also hired hard in traditional industries going digital, such as schools, courts, government and farms. Legaltech is the sharpest hiring hotspot in it (who they hire). Harvey builds AI that reads case law for legal research and legal AI, and Onit and LegalBridge build legal practice and matter management software. Both run on Python services. In Edtech, NxtWave, Marrow and BOLD build their learning products in Python and take juniors more readily.

Fintech hires Python backend engineers at an ordinary rate, but three corners stand out. PayPal builds its services for payment gateways in Django on AWS. FactSet, S&P Global, Morningstar and MSCI build FastAPI services over financial data, ratings and research, and they are among the more open product companies for a junior. Experian and CredHive build the systems for credit bureaus, scoring and underwriting. In Cybersecurity, Abnormal Security, Rapid7, SailPoint and Palo Alto Networks hire Python mostly for plain backend work.

Where data and health meet the product, Python backend jobs are often open to freshers. In Data platforms and AI, Alation and Altimate AI build data catalogues, part of data integration and governance platforms, and AlphaSense and NielsenIQ build research platforms. The engineer here builds the product, not the data pipeline. In Healthtech and life sciences, Innovaccer and HiLabs build healthcare products for healthcare data platforms and interoperability. OpenEye, MetFlux Research and Elucidata write scientific Python for AI drug discovery platforms, and they are among the friendliest places in the market for a fresher.

A few more pockets are worth knowing. Blue Yonder, Aera Technology and Kinaxis build supply chain planning software in Django and FastAPI. Cadence builds the services around its tools for chip design software (EDA). In Proptech, Cyncly and Attentive.ai build software for designers and builders.

Services firms

In the services world, Python backend engineers build applications for clients. Accenture posts the most Python openings of any single firm, though Python is a tiny part of its hiring (who they hire). The IT services giants, like Infosys, IBM, TCS and LTIMindtree, hire few Python backend engineers and almost never juniors.

The real hiring hotspot for Python in services is The consulting firms' engineering arms (who they hire). Deloitte, BCG X, McKinsey, PwC India and Bain build AI and analytics products for clients in full-stack Python, with FastAPI, Postgres and React. Python is the main role at BCG X. These firms are the most open place in the market for a junior Python engineer. Specialist firms built around one skill, with YASH Technologies, Fractal and Tredence, hire Python heavily too, for data and analytics work built with FastAPI on AWS. Mid-sized IT services firms, like UST, Virtusa and Persistent Systems, hire above their weight, mostly in Flask. The quiet foreign majors, like CGI and NTT DATA, build full-stack Python with React. More on all of them is in the services world's smaller roles.

GCCs

Python is a small role in the GCCs, which build mostly in Java. Where they do hire Python backend engineers, it is to build internal tools and data applications for the parent, in FastAPI and Django with React.

The healthcare companies are the GCC hiring hotspot. Inside pharma, medical and healthcare companies, Amgen, Bristol Myers Squibb, Takeda and MSD hire full-stack Python at the centres that run the parent's whole engineering function (who they hire). Optum and McKesson hire it at the centres that build the parent's apps and platforms. These are the GCCs most open to a junior Python engineer. The banks hire the most Python backend engineers of any GCC group, though it is a small part of what they hire. Inside the banks and financial institutions, Wells Fargo, NatWest Group and Citi hire it mostly for the wider engineering of the bank, and JPMorganChase and Societe Generale for new platforms (who they hire). These roles are mostly for experienced engineers. More on Python across the GCCs is in the GCCs' other roles.

Big tech

Big tech hardly hires Python backend engineers in India. Python there is posted as machine learning, data or infrastructure work, and those jobs belong to other roles.

Staffing firms and hiring platforms

The staffing companies, like OrbiTouch HR, BairesDev, TekWissen and Recro, place Python backend engineers more readily than most employers hire them, mostly with FastAPI and AWS. The established ones take juniors more readily than most of the market. The hiring platforms, like Uplers, Weekday AI, hackajob and Turing, offer remote Python work for companies abroad.

Where Python backend is rarely hired

Python backend engineers are rarely hired by big tech, by the GCCs of retailers, insurers and manufacturers, or by the companies that build cars and moving services. These build in Java, Node, C++ or Go. Among the services firms, the ones that feel like product companies hire few as well.

Roles next door Data engineers use Python to move data through pipelines rather than to build an application. GenAI engineers and machine learning engineers use it to build and serve models. Java engineers and JavaScript and Node engineers build backends in other languages. Frontend engineers build the screens that full-stack Python engineers also touch. Terms used on this page B2B Business to business. A company that sells software or services to other companies. GCC Global capability centre. A global company's own engineering centre in India, building software for its parent. Django A Python framework that comes with its own database layer, login and admin screens, used to build large business applications. FastAPI A newer Python framework for lean services that other software calls. Flask An older, lighter Python framework, common in smaller services and client systems. Full-stack A job that covers both the backend and the screens the user sees. Last updated October 2026.
