Two buyers, two kinds of software

The same bill, from both sides. Law firms usually charge by the hour. In America, lawyers record their time in units of six minutes, a tenth of an hour. The firm sends its bill to the client's legal department. The legal department checks every line against its billing rules, called outside counsel guidelines, and disputes whatever breaks them. So the law firm's software writes the bill, and the legal department's software checks it.

The team that runs a legal department's budgets, software and processes is called legal operations, or legal ops. It is the main buyer of enterprise legal management software.
Most of the buyers here are in America. Several of the companies build their software in Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Every company named here has posted software engineering jobs in India. Famous companies that don't actively hire software engineers in India are left out.
