The other roles in the GCCs Every role across the GCC collection without a role page of its own, all ten Parent Industries together. The short answer Beyond the seven large roles and the six business-platform roles, the GCCs hire three other kinds of engineer. The first is a large pool of generalist software engineers, whose postings name a language rather than a product. This pool is bigger than most people expect, twice its share at product companies, and centred on JPMorganChase and NatWest Group. The second is engineers hired for the parent's business, Software Engineer, Fintech at the banks and insurers, like JPMorganChase, Wells Fargo and The Hartford, and Software Engineer, Healthtech at the healthcare companies, like McKesson Compile and HCA Healthcare. Last is a set of smaller roles, each a sliver of GCC hiring. Some are well above their product-company weight, such as mainframe programmers, reporting analysts and the full-stack engineers who work on any backend. Others are far below it, such as security, Node, Python and Go engineers and ML engineers. Then there are the roles the GCCs hardly hire at all, embedded firmware, C/C++ systems engineering and chip design. These are the core of product hiring in India, but at the GCCs they live almost entirely in a handful of centres that engineer the parent's physical product, Stellantis, Celestica and Goodyear among them. Generalist software engineers

Generalist software engineers are hired for a language and a database rather than a product or a platform, mostly Java with Python, JavaScript and SQL, and sometimes C# and .NET. Together they are a large pool, larger than .NET or test, and about twice their share at product companies.

Where. The banks hire them well above their weight, JPMorganChase and NatWest Group most of all, with Wells Fargo, Empower and Societe Generale. The retailers hire them at their weight, through Tesco and Walmart. At Empower, Ecolab, NatWest Group and Tesco they are an unusually large part of hiring. The centres Building the parent's apps and platforms, like JPMorganChase, Walmart and Tesco, hire them a little above their weight. Four kinds. Most lean to application development. One large group, almost all at JPMorganChase, leans to mobile. Another, mostly at NatWest Group, leans to infrastructure and scripting in Python and SQL. A fourth, at Tesco, describes the business process the engineer will support rather than any technology. Change. Generalist openings rose steeply in April to June 2026, far more than GCC hiring did, and fell back in July to September. Door. This is one of the readiest doors into a GCC. Generalist openings take juniors well above the GCC rate, at JPMorganChase, Walmart and NatWest Group above all, and they fill a little faster than GCC jobs overall.
Software Engineer, Fintech and Software Engineer, Healthtech Software Engineer, Fintech. Software engineers who already know the financial business they will build for, and are hired for that knowledge as much as for their code. Most are ordinary backend and full-stack engineers in Java and Python with Kafka and a cloud, whose setting is a bank or an insurer. A smaller part need the business itself. Trading postings require the FIX protocol, mostly at Wells Fargo, JPMorganChase and Macquarie, and insurance postings require Guidewire, mostly at Nationwide and The Hartford. The banks hold most of the fintech software engineers, JPMorganChase, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, American Express, Standard Chartered and Societe Generale above all, and the insurers hire them at a similar weight. At Nationwide they are one of the largest roles. Mumbai holds a clearly larger share of this work than of GCC hiring. Fintech software engineers are hired mostly with experience. (More on it in the banks' hiring, in Parent Industry 1.) Software Engineer, Healthtech. Software engineers hired to build for healthcare in particular. Most are ordinary full-stack engineers whose setting is a hospital, a lab or a health plan. A smaller part need healthcare knowledge, and their postings require HL7 and FHIR, the standards health systems use to exchange records, and HIPAA, the American law on keeping patient data private. McKesson Compile, HCA Healthcare, Eurofins and Optum hire them. (More on it in the healthcare companies' hiring, in Parent Industry 5.)

At the other industries, the postings that name an industry but require nothing specific to it are counted with the generalist software engineers.

The smaller roles Software Engineer, Security. Software engineers who specialise in security. They build login systems, cloud and network protections, and the checks that keep code safe. At the GCCs they are far below their weight at product companies. Most are identity and access engineers, with OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, LDAP and Active Directory, and the rest work on cloud security with Terraform and Prisma Cloud, or on application security. Walmart hires the most security software engineers, then JPMorganChase, Bank of America, Commonwealth Bank and Wells Fargo, and Bank of America hires them in the largest proportion. It is one of the most senior roles in the GCCs, with many staff-level openings and almost no juniors, and its share of GCC hiring rose from April 2026. JavaScript and Node full-stack engineers. Well below their product-company weight. They build web screens together with the Node services behind them, in React, TypeScript, Express and GraphQL. Tesco hires the most, then Walmart, NatWest Group and Marriott, and the retailers, the media groups, like Warner Bros. Discovery and Condé Nast, and the hotels, like Marriott, hire them well above their GCC weight. The role is senior, with few juniors. Python backend and full-stack engineers. Well below their product-company weight. They build internal tools and data applications in FastAPI, Django and Flask with React. JPMorganChase, Amgen and Wells Fargo hire the most, and the healthcare companies hire them at well over twice their GCC weight. Full-stack engineers on any backend. A little under their product-company weight. They build React screens on whatever backend the team uses. Walmart, JPMorganChase, U.S. Bank, NatWest Group and Allstate hire the most, and at Allstate they are one of the largest roles. The media groups hire them at several times their GCC weight, through Comcast and Warner Bros. Discovery. This role takes juniors more readily than almost any other in the GCCs, at Allstate, NatWest Group, Lowe's and SLB, and its openings rose in July to September 2026 when most roles fell. ML engineers. A little under their product-company weight. They build classical machine-learning models, adapt and train language models, and work on language and speech, in Python with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn and SageMaker. NatWest Group hires the most, then The Hartford, Walmart and JPMorganChase. The insurers and the media groups hire them at more than twice their GCC weight, and the whole-function centres, like NatWest Group and The Hartford, well above theirs. ML openings fell sharply in July to September 2026. Mainframe programmers. Nearly ten times their weight at product companies. They keep the large central computers that many banks and insurers still run their core accounts on, in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM and z/OS, and on IBM's AS/400 with RPG. MetLife hires the most, then JPMorganChase, NatWest Group, Fidelity Investments, Optum India, Wells Fargo and HSBC. The insurers hire them at several times their GCC weight, and Pune holds a far larger share of this work than of GCC hiring. It is mid-level work with almost no staff-level openings, and these jobs are rarely posted twice. Reporting and BI analysts. Nearly three times their product-company weight. They build reports and dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, SAS and MicroStrategy. Societe Generale hires the most by far, then Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo and The Hartford. They take juniors readily, but these jobs stay open far longer than most. Go backend engineers. About an eighth of their product-company weight. American Express, Walmart and Fox Corp hire the most, and at Fox Corp Go is a notable part of hiring. Content and design platforms. A few engineers build websites on Adobe Experience Manager, at Ecolab, American Express and NatWest Group, and a few business-systems postings, mostly at U.S. Bank, name Adobe's marketing tools, and a few work on Dassault's 3DEXPERIENCE and ENOVIA, the software manufacturers use to manage product designs. Embedded, C/C++ and chips: the roles the GCCs hardly hire

Embedded firmware, C/C++ systems engineering and chip design are among the largest roles at product companies in India. At the GCCs they are a sliver, because they belong to companies whose product is a chip, a device or a vehicle, and most GCC parents sell loans, groceries or medicines.

Embedded firmware engineers are about a sixth of their weight at product companies. Nearly all of them are at the carmakers and manufacturers of Parent Industry 4, at many times their GCC weight, and in the centres whose mandate is Engineering the thing itself, like Stellantis, Celestica, Goodyear and Toshiba Software, where they are the main role. At Stellantis, embedded engineers are most of what the centre posts, and at Celestica, the electronics maker, the largest role. The work comes in three kinds. Automotive software, at Stellantis, Goodyear and Jaguar Land Rover, requires AUTOSAR, ISO 26262, Simulink and the CAN bus that links a vehicle's electronics. Device firmware, at Celestica, SLB, Toshiba Software and Linde, requires C and C++ on real-time operating systems with SPI, I2C and Ethernet. A few engineers at Walmart and Stellantis work on Android itself, for devices. SLB, the energy-services company, also hires firmware engineers for its equipment. The role is senior, with many staff-level openings, and Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune hold most of it. C/C++ systems engineers are about a tenth of their weight at product companies. They come in two kinds. Systems engineers work close to the operating system with the Linux kernel, device drivers and board support packages, and increasingly Rust, mostly at Walmart, with NatWest Group, Williams-Sonoma and Dell behind. Network engineers work on TCP/IP, UDP, multicast and routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF, at Standard Chartered and Celestica. It is one of the most senior roles in the GCCs, with almost no juniors, and these jobs are posted again more often than most. Bengaluru holds most of the work. Chip designers barely appear. A handful of FPGA and microcontroller openings at Arrow Electronics, Tesla and SLB is all the GCC record holds.
What is changing

These readings follow the record quarter by quarter, from October to December 2025, the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, to July to September 2026, the second quarter of 2026-27. A longer record will show whether they last.

The generalists swung hardestAs GCC hiring rose to April to June 2026 and fell back, generalist openings rose far more and then fell back far more. ML and reporting fell in the last quarter, full-stack and security held upML and BI openings fell sharply in July to September 2026. Full-stack openings on any backend rose in that quarter, and security software engineers took a larger share of GCC hiring from April 2026. Mainframe work held steadyfrom January 2026, and healthtech openings grew in every quarter, from very few.
Persistently open roles Reporting analysts, C/C++ systems engineers and Go engineers stay open longest. Their jobs are posted again far more often than GCC jobs overall. Embedded, ML, security and Node jobs also stay open more often than average. Mainframe, full-stack, fintech and generalist jobs fill fastest. Mainframe jobs are rarely posted twice. The door The readiest doors are the generalist pools, full-stack on any backend, reporting, ML and Go, each taking juniors at or above the GCC rate. The narrowest are C/C++, Node, security and the fintech and healthtech roles, which hire almost entirely with experience. Embedded and C/C++ also carry many staff-level openings. In one line If your skill is not one of the GCCs' large roles or business platforms, look to the generalist pools at JPMorganChase and NatWest Group, to the mainframe and reporting work at the banks and insurers, and, for embedded and C/C++, to the few centres that engineer the parent's own product. Terms used on this page Mandate The kind of work a parent company gives its engineering centre in India, such as building its apps and platforms, running its own systems, or testing software built elsewhere. FIX protocol The standard message format that trading systems use to send orders and confirmations to each other. Guidewire The software many insurers run their policies, billing and claims on. HL7 and FHIR The standards that hospitals, labs and insurers use to exchange patient records between their systems. HIPAA The American law that sets how patient health information must be kept private and secure. Mainframe, COBOL, JCL, CICS and AS/400 The mainframe is the large central computer many banks and insurers still run their core accounts on. COBOL is the language its programs are written in, JCL schedules its batch jobs, and CICS runs its transactions. The AS/400 is a smaller IBM business computer some companies still run. AUTOSAR and ISO 26262 AUTOSAR is the standard way of structuring the software inside a car, and ISO 26262 the safety standard that software must meet. CAN bus The network that links the electronic units inside a vehicle. Adobe Experience Manager Software for building and running large company websites. 3DEXPERIENCE and ENOVIA Dassault Systèmes' software for designing products and managing their designs.
