What automotive and mobility companies hire for Industry Vertical 38, Automotive and mobility, in Domain X, Industrial tech and mobility. The short answer The companies in Automotive and mobility build the software in and around vehicles. Their products are the screens, voices and cameras in the car's dashboard, self-driving and connected-car platforms, video safety and tracking for fleets, the dealer's and the used-car market's systems, ride-hailing and parking, the parts and batteries suppliers make, charging networks, trains and signalling, transit fares and tolls, and India's own electric scooters. Harman, a car-audio and infotainment maker, hires far more than any other, with the vehicle-claims and dealer software company Solera, the ride-hailing platform Uber and the cockpit-electronics maker Visteon behind. The car's dashboard runs on embedded software and Android, so embedded firmware engineers are more than three times as common here as at a typical product company, and mobile engineers more than three times as well. The dealer's systems bring a large group of .NET engineers. Java, cloud and GenAI engineers are less common than usual, and the door for juniors is narrow and narrowed further through 2026. Who gets hired, and why Embedded firmware Test Java backend and full-stack .NET Mobile Cloud and DevOps GenAI Data Go Also present

Embedded firmware engineers. A modern car's dashboard, cameras and control units run on software inside them. Firmware engineers write it in C and C++ on embedded Linux, RTOS and QNX, with CAN bus and automotive Ethernet, to the AUTOSAR architecture and the ASPICE and ISO 26262 standards. Many build Android for the car itself, with AOSP and the Android framework. Harman hires the most, followed by the car-electronics supplier Aptiv and Visteon, with the video fleet-safety company Lytx and the rail-technology company Wabtec. Firmware engineers are more than three times as common here as at a typical product company, and they take the most juniors here.

Test engineers. Every screen, voice command and dealer system is tested before it reaches a car or a showroom. Test engineers work at Harman and Solera above all, in Java and Python with Selenium, Appium and Robot Framework, and many on embedded and mobile testing. They are a little above their usual weight.

Java backend and full-stack engineers. The claims and dealer platforms, the transit-fare systems, the dealer-software company Tekion and Uber run on Java services. Java engineers build them in Spring Boot on AWS, with Kafka and PostgreSQL. Java is less common here than at most product companies, and it is hired almost entirely with experience.

.NET engineers. Solera builds much of its platform on the Microsoft stack, and it hires most of the .NET engineers here, in C# with React, SQL Server and Entity Framework. Lytx and Harman hire the rest. .NET engineers are above their usual weight.

Mobile engineers. The car's screen is increasingly an Android device. Mobile engineers build apps for it in Kotlin and Java with the Android framework and Jetpack Compose, mostly at Harman and Visteon. Uber hires mobile engineers for its own apps. Mobile engineers are more than three times as common here as elsewhere, and they are hired almost entirely with experience.

Cloud and DevOps engineers. Harman, Solera and Uber hire cloud engineers, in Python with Kubernetes and Terraform on AWS. They are below their usual weight.

GenAI engineers. Tekion, Visteon and Solera hire most of the GenAI engineers here, building assistants for dealers, drivers and claims handlers in Python and Java with LangChain, LangGraph and MCP. GenAI is less common here than at most product companies.

Data engineers. Solera, Uber, Harman and Lytx hire data engineers, in Python with Kafka, Spark and Flink. They hold about their usual place.

Go engineers. The ride-hailing platforms, like Uber, Ola and Rapido, and the fleet-management company Motive build their services in Go. Go holds about its usual place overall, and it is several times as common in ride-hailing.

Also present. C/C++ systems engineers at the infotainment and electronics makers, like Harman, Visteon and Aptiv, frontend engineers, generalist software engineers at Wabtec and Solera, ML engineers for computer vision at Harman and the video fleet-safety companies, like Lytx and Netradyne, generalist software engineers in Automotive and mobility at Uber, Node engineers at the charging network ChargePoint and the car-auction companies, like Copart and ACV Auctions, fintech software engineers, SAP developers and Software Engineer, Security roles.

Rare here. Salesforce and VLSI work barely appear.

These readings follow the record quarter by quarter, from October to December 2025, the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, to July to September 2026, the second quarter of 2026-27. A longer record will show whether they last.

Strongest at the end of 2025This Industry Vertical's share of product-company hiring was highest in October to December 2025. Openings still rose to a peak in April to June 2026, then fell between July and September a little more than across product companies. The car's software grewEmbedded firmware and mobile engineers took a steadily larger share of hiring through 2026, while .NET fell sharply between July and September. AI caught up a littleAI work was a smaller share of hiring here than across product companies in every quarter, but it rose sharply between July and September 2026, when GenAI hiring picked up. The door narrowedEntry and junior hiring was a fair share of openings at the end of 2025 and fell in every quarter after, to very little in July to September 2026.
Persistently open roles

More jobs here are persistently open than across product companies.

.NET, test and firmware roles stay open longest. They are posted again more often than the same roles elsewhere, and mobile roles stay open a little longer than usual too. The skills that turn up most often in the jobs that stay open are AOSP, HAL and QNX, Appium and Robot Framework, and C# with Entity Framework, ASP.NET MVC and SQL Server. Frontend jobs fill quickly, and GenAI jobs a little faster than elsewhere. Visteon, Motive, Lytx and Solera are regularly hiring, keeping many of their jobs open again and again. Uber and Tekion rarely do. How long they stay open. When a job is posted again, its first and last postings are typically about three weeks apart, and rarely more than about eleven weeks.
