Java backend and full-stack engineers. Behind every marketing product sits an engine that schedules campaigns, delivers millions of messages, runs loyalty points and serves the creative and event platforms. Java engineers build these engines. They are the most common opening here, and most roles are full-stack, so the postings require React and JavaScript alongside Java and Spring Boot, with Kafka for the flow of events.
Data engineers. A brand sees a customer as an email address on the website, a phone number at the billing counter, a device code in the app and a cookie from an advertisement. Joining those clues into one profile, and then matching people across companies, is data engineering at large scale. Data engineers are well over twice as common here as at a typical product company, concentrated at the identity and customer-data companies, like Epsilon and LiveRamp. The postings require Python and SQL with Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake and Kafka.
GenAI engineers. Marketing is full of work that language and image models can do, such as writing the message, generating on-brand creative, answering a shopper inside a WhatsApp chat and reading the social conversation about a brand. GenAI engineers build those features, at Adobe, the WhatsApp commerce platforms, like LimeChat and Bik, and the event platforms, like Cvent and Goldcast. The postings require Python with LangChain, LlamaIndex and vector databases such as Pinecone. They are more common here than at most product companies, and this role takes juniors more readily than any other large role in this Industry Vertical.
JavaScript and Node full-stack engineers. The marketer's everyday tools are web applications, from the journey canvas and the campaign editor to the shared WhatsApp inbox and the chatbot builder. Many are built end to end in TypeScript and Node with React or Vue. These engineers are several times as common here as at a typical product company, mostly at the platforms for small businesses and for selling over WhatsApp, like HighLevel and AiSensy.
Frontend engineers. Marketers and creators work inside design and video editors, survey builders, listening dashboards and campaign screens. Frontend engineers build them in React, with attention to performance, component design and micro-frontends. They are about twice as common here as at most product companies.
Test engineers. Testing has a solid place, mostly at Adobe and HighLevel, a small-business marketing platform. Testers automate in Java and JavaScript with Playwright, Cypress and Selenium, and some test mobile apps.
.NET engineers. The identity and loyalty companies, like Epsilon and dunnhumby, run long-established platforms on the Microsoft stack. .NET engineers maintain and extend them, usually with Angular and SQL Server, and they are hired with experience.
Also present. Full-stack engineers who work across several back-end languages, mobile engineers for creator apps, and a modest group of cloud engineers, below their usual weight.
Rare here. C/C++ systems engineering, firmware, SAP and ServiceNow barely appear.
Where in the Industry Vertical the work is
Market Segment 13.5Creative tools, event platforms and creator marketing hires the most, through Adobe in The creative tools and Cvent in The event. Java, GenAI, test and frontend engineers lead there.
Market Segment 13.1Marketing automation and customer engagement platforms is next, mostly through HighLevel. JavaScript full-stack and test engineers lead.
Market Segment 13.3Customer data platforms (CDP) and identity resolution is the data-engineering corner, mostly through Epsilon, with .NET and Java engineers beside the data engineers.
Market Segment 13.4PR, media monitoring and social listening tools hires Java, frontend and .NET engineers for listening and media platforms.
Market Segment 13.7Loyalty and rewards platforms hires Java and .NET engineers for loyalty platforms and customer analytics.
Market Segments 13.2 and 13.6 hire less. The WhatsApp commerce platforms hire JavaScript and GenAI engineers, and the survey companies, like SurveyMonkey, hire frontend engineers.
Some companies listed here have their main home elsewhere. They are Salesforce and HubSpot (Market Segment 14.1, in Industry Vertical 14, CRM and sales tech), Blackhawk Network (Market Segment 17.6, in Industry Vertical 17, Payments) and Naehas (Market Segment 11.4, in Industry Vertical 11). Their hiring is described where they live, not here.
Bengaluru leads, and Delhi NCR is an unusually strong second, through Adobe's centre there, HighLevel and several listening and event companies, like Cvent and Sprinklr.
