An organisation's network, place by place
A laptop's request starts in the office, goes to the data centre and on to the cloud. Branch offices and home workers reach the same cloud over the internet.
Boxes 1, 3 and 4 are the places that the request passes through. Box 2 gives every device its address and works alongside all of them. Box 5 connects branch offices and home workers to the cloud. Tap a title in the diagram to jump to its companies.
Office and campus networks 7 companies
Every office, campus and branch has its own network. Your laptop connects to a Wi-Fi access point. The access point is connected by cable to a switch, and a router connects the office to the outside world. The makers usually sell this equipment through partners: resellers that sell it, and system integrators that install it.
The full range, for large organisations
These companies sell every part of an office network: Wi-Fi, switches, routers and the software to manage them. Cisco is the largest. HPE is second, through its Aruba brand and through Juniper, which HPE bought in 2025.
CiscoCisco is the largest maker of networking equipment for organisations. It sells Wi-Fi, switches, routers and the software to manage them. Its Bengaluru campus is one of its largest engineering sites outside the United States.Bengaluru · Hyderabad · PuneHiring now

It also owns the networking companies Aruba and Juniper, and with them it is the second-largest supplier of networks for organisations.BengaluruHiring nowSee alsoServer and storage hardwareMade for particular buyers
Each of these companies sells mainly to one kind of buyer: hotels and public venues, smaller organisations, or buyers who want equipment made in India.
Names, addresses and load balancing 3 companies
When your laptop joins a network, three things happen in the background. The network gives the laptop an address (DHCP). When you open a website such as mail.company.com, the network looks up the address for that name (DNS). When your request reaches the data centre, a load balancer chooses one of many servers to answer it.
InfobloxInfoblox makes the software that hands out addresses and looks up names across large networks. It also uses what it sees in these lookups to spot attacks early.BengaluruHired recently
F5F5 makes load balancers, which sit in front of an application and share its traffic between servers. It also sells products that protect applications from attack.Hyderabad · BengaluruHiring nowSee alsoNetwork security, firewalls and SASE

A data centre holds thousands of servers. Switches connect the servers to each other and to the outside world. The biggest buyers are cloud companies and companies that build AI clusters. A buyer can get a switch from one company as a complete package, or buy plain hardware and its software separately.
Branded switches
One company sells the switch hardware and the software that runs it, as one package. Most buyers buy their switches this way.
White-box switches and their software
Plain switch hardware, called a white box, with its software bought separately. The largest buyers, such as cloud companies and telecom operators, build part of their networks this way.
Edgecore Networks Corp.Edgecore Networks makes white-box switches. Buyers run them with software from another company, or with software they write themselves.BengaluruNetworking across clouds 2 companies
Many organisations run their applications in more than one cloud, such as AWS and Azure, and in their own data centre as well. Each cloud has its own networking tools, so connecting them is hard. These companies sell one networking layer that runs across all of them.
Networks for branches and home workers 2 companies
A branch office used to send all its traffic over an expensive private line to head office, where the traffic was checked for security. Now branch offices and home workers can use the ordinary internet instead (SD-WAN). On the way, their traffic passes through security checks in the cloud (SASE) before it reaches the cloud apps.
AryakaAryaka runs SD-WAN and SASE for its customers as a managed service: it sets up and operates the network for them. It has a large engineering team in India.
Versa NetworksVersa Networks makes SD-WAN and SASE software. Telecom operators often resell it to their business customers.BengaluruHiring nowSee alsoNetwork security, firewalls and SASEWhat's changing
AI clusters need a new kind of network.
An AI cluster is thousands of GPU chips that work together to train one AI model. A network joins the chips, and it has to be extremely fast. Many clusters have used InfiniBand, a networking technology sold by NVIDIA. More clusters are now built with very fast Ethernet instead, using switches from Arista, Cisco and the white-box makers. Broadcom makes the chips inside many of these switches, and NVIDIA now sells Ethernet switches too.
