What we read
Ingrid reads the jobs that companies advertise for software engineers in India. Postings are collected every day. When a job is posted again, it is recognised as the same job, and the dates on which it was seen are kept. That is how a page can say a job stays open, or keeps coming back.
How a posting is sorted
Each posting is read and sorted five ways:
- Employer: the company, and through it the collection, the industry and the segment it belongs to.
- Role: the kind of engineer the job is for, such as a Java backend engineer or a GenAI engineer. A posting has one main role, and can have a second.
- Skills: the languages, tools and platforms the posting names.
- Seniority: the level the job is pitched at.
- City: where the job is based.
Shares, not counts
Ingrid reports shares and comparisons, not raw counts. A role's place in an employer's hiring is its share of that employer's postings. That share is then compared with a stated group: similar employers, the rest of the collection, or the same employer in an earlier quarter. So a page says a role is hired "several times as often, relative to all hiring, as at a typical product company", not that an employer posted a given number of jobs.
Words such as "most", "a larger share" or "about three times" stand in for exact figures. A count of postings moves with how employers advertise, not only with how many people they hire, so a precise number would claim more than the postings can show.
Quarters
Change is read quarter by quarter, in India's financial year: April to June is the first quarter. The record on the hiring pages runs from October to December 2025 to July to September 2026, and each hiring page names the quarters its readings cover. The hiring pages are rewritten each quarter. "What moved this quarter" on the home page is written only from what the hiring pages say.
Jobs that stay open
Some jobs are posted again and again over weeks or months. A job like that is persistently open. A larger share of persistently open jobs points to roles that are hard to fill, or that an employer is always hiring for. The postings alone cannot say which, and the pages say so where it matters.
The limits
Postings show what employers advertise, not whom they hire. A posting can be reposted, vague or aspirational, and some hiring is never advertised at all. The readings describe the shape of demand. They are not a promise about any single application, salary or career, and they are not professional advice.
Where the method affects how a reading should be read, the page says so in plain words. Each page explains its own terms at the end, under "Terms used on this page".
