Casino technology is the hardware and software that runs a casino floor: slot machines, card tables, cashless payments and the central system that records every bet. Most of it is sold to casinos in America, Europe, Macau and Australia. In India, casinos are legal only in Goa and Sikkim. But many of the companies that make this technology have large engineering centres in Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi.

The busiest machine on the floor is the slot machine. It is now a computer in a cabinet, and each game on it is software. A certified random number generator decides each spin. The game is set to pay back a fixed share of the money played, over a very large number of spins. The rest is the casino's house edge.

Every slot machine and every table is connected to the casino management system. It records each bet and each win. It also records what each player plays, if the player uses a loyalty card. At the card tables, table game management produces the same kind of record. Machines shuffle the cards. The chips carry small radio tags, which are explained in RFID, so a reader under the table can count every bet.

Players used to carry cash and plastic chips. Now many pay through cashless gaming instead. They load money into a wallet on their phone, and move it to a slot machine with a tap. The same companies also sell online casino games, which bring slot and table games to a phone, in the countries where online casinos are legal.

A regulator watches all of this closely. Before a game may be used, an independent test laboratory checks its software and its payback. The casino must keep a record of every bet for the regulator's inspectors. It must refuse entry to players who have asked to be barred, and watch for players who are losing control. These duties are described in responsible gambling. It must also report large or suspicious cash payments, through AML transaction monitoring.
