Rent-pricing software promised landlords better prices from better data. American regulators argued that it can act like a cartel, when competing landlords share their data through one algorithm. A cartel is a group of competitors that agree on prices instead of competing. The case shows that software which sets prices raises questions of competition law. The software companies building it in India are in the middle of this.
Rent set by one algorithm: competing landlords share their data with one pricing algorithm, which recommends a rent back to each of them. American regulators argued that this can act like a cartel.
