Tech-led restaurant and cafe chains Restaurant chains run with software at their core In the pantry of your office, a machine brews masala chai at the press of a button. When it runs low, it tells the company that runs it, and someone comes to refill it before you notice.

That machine belongs to a restaurant chain. Some restaurant chains hire engineers because software is part of what they sell. This Market Segment covers those chains. (Cloud kitchens, which cook only for delivery, are covered in Market Segment 28.2, Cloud kitchens.)

Every company named here has posted software engineering jobs in India. Famous companies that don't actively hire software engineers in India are left out. This Market Segment covers only one company. The large global chains, such as Yum! Brands and Taco Bell, run their own technology centres in India. These are global capability centres (GCCs): engineering centres that large foreign companies run in India for their own work. (More on them in the GCC collection.) India's own large chains are not covered in this Market Segment.

This Market Segment has one sub-segment.

A tea chain run on connected machines

Back to the chai machine in your office pantry from the start of this Market Segment.

Chai Pointwith engineers in Bengaluru, runs a chain of tea cafés. Beyond the cafés, it runs myChai: brewing machines in offices, connected to the internet through the cloud. Each machine reports how much it is used, and it is restocked automatically. Chai Point also sells packaged teas online. Its packaged teas are why it also appears in Market Segment 26.3, Direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands (in Industry Vertical 26, E-commerce and D2C brands). The chai machine that asks for a refill: each myChai machine in an office reports through the cloud how much it is used, and Chai Point restocks it before it runs out.The chai machine that asks for a refill: each myChai machine in an office reports through the cloud how much it is used, and Chai Point restocks it before it runs out. Some chains put their product in thousands of connected machines in offices, rather than in shops. Such a chain is running a fleet. Each machine reports what it serves, and when it needs refilling. Chai Point's brewing network is the example in this Market Segment.

That is the end of Industry Vertical 28, Foodtech and quick commerce. It began with the app that brings dinner in half an hour, and it ends with a tea chain that runs on connected machines.
