Cloud and DevOps engineers in the services world A role across the services world, every Company Tier together, Accenture left out. Accenture's cloud hiring is described with the rest of its hiring on its own. The short answer Running a client's systems is the services world's oldest business, and today those systems run on a cloud. Cloud and DevOps engineers build the platforms software runs on, the pipelines that ship it and the monitoring that keeps it up, and over the record they were a sizeable role in services, a little below their weight at product companies. The giants, like Wipro, IBM and Infosys, hold most of this work, at above their services weight, and the firms that run clients' infrastructure, like Kyndryl and Unisys, hire it at twice their weight. The build firms, like EPAM and Caizin, the consulting arms, like PwC and Deloitte, and the engineering-services firms, like Quest Global and ACL Digital, hire it least, because their clients run what they build. As with testing, the story of 2026 is a fall. Cloud and DevOps openings dropped far faster than services hiring as a whole after December 2025, because Wipro, which posted the most cloud jobs in the record, all but stopped, and IBM and Infosys cut back hard. What remains is platform engineering in Python, Kubernetes and Terraform, increasingly for AI systems. The door is narrower than the services door, with junior openings rarer and mid-level ones more common. Where the work sits The giants hold most of it. Company Tier 1, The IT services giants, posted most of the services world's cloud and DevOps openings across the record, at above its services weight. Wipro, which the narrative names for running cloud platforms, posted the largest part, then IBM, which the narrative names for business platforms and cloud, then Infosys and TCS. The infrastructure firms hire it at twice their weight. In Company Tier 4, The firms that run the infrastructure, cloud and DevOps is the second-largest role, behind Java. These firms sell the run of a client's data centre and cloud, and Kyndryl and Unisys hire most of their cloud engineers, in Python and Java on AWS. The mid-sized firms and the quiet foreign majors sit a little above the services rate. Virtusa, UST and Mphasis among the mid-sized firms and CGI and NTT DATA among the foreign majors hire the most. The small shops sit at about the rate, at firms like AgileEngine and ZapCom Group, and the BPO and KPO firms a little below it, at firms like Sutherland, TELUS Digital and TTEC. Least of all. The build firms, the consulting arms, the engineering-services firms and the specialist firms, like YASH Technologies and WaferWire Cloud Technologies, hire cloud engineers at well under their services weight. A build firm or a consulting arm hands what it builds to the client, so cloud work is written into its engineering roles rather than hired separately. What the work is

Cloud and DevOps in services comes in four kinds, and the mix differs by kind of firm.

Cloud platform engineering, building and running the platforms software runs on, is the largest, and the main kind in almost every tier outside the giants. The postings require Python, Kubernetes, Docker and Terraform on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, often with Go, Java and Ansible. Build and release engineering, the pipelines that build, test and ship code, was the largest kind at the giants, and most of it was at Wipro. The postings require Azure DevOps, Jenkins and GitHub Actions, with Python and Java. Infrastructure administration, running servers in Linux, Unix and Windows, in Python, PowerShell and Ansible, is largest at Infosys. Site reliability engineering, keeping production up, requires monitoring and observability tools, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Datadog and Dynatrace, with Python, Java and Go. It is a large part of the role at the small shops.

Across all four, Python is the first language by far. Kubernetes, Java, AWS and Docker follow. Most cloud postings also expect the engineer to write application code, which is why Java appears so often. Go is required in many postings, mostly at IBM.

None of the cloud postings ask for experience with language models. But a growing share involve running the infrastructure that AI and machine-learning systems run on, the clusters, pipelines and model services behind them.

Cloud and DevOps is concentrated in Bengaluru even more than services hiring as a whole, with Hyderabad and Pune far behind.

What is changing

These readings follow the record quarter by quarter, from October to December 2025, the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, to July to September 2026, the second quarter of 2026-27. A longer record will show whether they last.

Cloud hiring fell off a cliff after December 2025Services firms posted fewer openings in every quarter, but cloud and DevOps openings fell much harder, dropping steeply into January to March 2026 and drifting lower after. The role went from above its weight at product companies to well below it, while product companies kept cloud at a fairly steady share. The giants pulled outWipro posted almost no cloud jobs after March 2026, IBM and Infosys fell to very few, and with them build and release engineering nearly vanished. TCS came back a little in July to September 2026. The mid-sized firms and the foreign majors held onVirtusa's cloud hiring rose to its highest in July to September 2026, and CGI kept hiring through 2026, so by that quarter the mid-sized firms were posting more cloud jobs than the giants. AI infrastructure grewThe share of cloud openings that involve running AI and machine-learning systems rose in every quarter, from very few in October to December 2025 to a notable part of the role by July to September 2026.
Persistently open roles

Cloud and DevOps jobs are persistently open less often than services jobs overall. When one is posted again, the gap is typically about three weeks, and rarely more than seven weeks.

The infrastructure firms keep cloud jobs open longest, far more often than any other kind of firm, and the small shops and the specialist firms almost never post a cloud job twice. IBM, UST, Capgemini, NTT DATA and Infosys post the same cloud job again most often. Less common tools are the hardest to find. The skills found most often in persistently open cloud jobs are the release tool Spinnaker, CircleCI, HashiCorp Vault for keeping secrets, AppDynamics and Elasticsearch for monitoring, and the message queues RabbitMQ and Amazon SQS.
The door

The cloud door is narrower than the services door. Junior openings are rarer than the services rate, entry-level openings are about as rare as everywhere in services, mid-level openings are the clear majority, and staff-level openings are a little more common than usual.

The mid-sized firms take juniors most readily, Virtusa above all, and the giants take the most in number, at IBM and Wipro. The consulting arms, the engineering-services firms and the BPO firms post no junior cloud openings, and the infrastructure firms almost none. Their cloud roles lean senior. The engineering-services firms and the small shops are the most mid-level, a likely door for an engineer with a couple of years of experience.
In one line Cloud and DevOps was one of the services world's large roles in the winter of 2025, but the giants have largely stopped hiring for it since, and the work that remains wants Python, Kubernetes and Terraform, more and more for AI systems, at the mid-sized firms, the foreign majors and the firms that run infrastructure. Terms used on this page DevOps The practice of building, shipping and running software as one continuous job, with automated pipelines. Build and release engineering Setting up and running the pipelines that turn code into a working release. Site reliability engineering Keeping production systems fast and available, using monitoring, automation and on-call response. Observability tools, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Datadog and Dynatrace Tools that collect and display what running software is doing, so problems can be found quickly. Spinnaker, CircleCI and HashiCorp Vault A tool for rolling out releases, a pipeline service, and a store for passwords and keys.
