Nonprofit and association management software Software for nonprofits, associations and community centres Think of donating to a charity online, renewing an IEEE membership or joining a swimming class at a community centre. Each of these runs on software built for organisations that are not businesses. They fall into three groups: Nonprofitssuch as charities and NGOs, which raise money from donors and grants. Associationssuch as professional bodies and trade associations, which collect dues from their members. Membership organisationssuch as community centres and clubs, which charge fees for classes and facilities. Where the money comes from: nonprofits raise donations and grants, associations collect dues from members, and membership organisations charge fees for classes and facilities.Where the money comes from: nonprofits raise donations and grants, associations collect dues from members, and membership organisations charge fees for classes and facilities.

What makes them different buyers. These organisations do not work for profit, and their staff is usually small. Their money comes from donations, grants and dues, and much of it comes with rules. So their software has to do things that ordinary business software does not:

Donor managementkeeping track of every donor, every gift and every conversation. It works like a CRM, the customer database a sales team uses, but for donors. (More on CRM in Market Segment 14.1, CRM software, in Industry Vertical 14, CRM and sales tech.) Fund accountingkeeping separate accounts for each fund. Money given for one purpose, called a restricted fund, may be spent only on that purpose. Receipts for taxdonors often get a tax deduction, so each gift needs a proper receipt. In India, for example, donations to registered charities can be deducted from taxable income under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Members and duesrenewals, events and, for professional bodies, certifications. The industry calls this association management software. A restricted fund: a gift given for one purpose goes into its own fund, kept in separate accounts, and may be spent only on that purpose. Each gift also needs a proper receipt for tax, in India under Section 80G.A restricted fund: a gift given for one purpose goes into its own fund, kept in separate accounts, and may be spent only on that purpose. Why the companies here build for America. America has more than a million registered nonprofits, and most of them are small. Each needs the same kinds of software, and few can build their own. So specialist companies sell them ready-made software, usually as a subscription. The market is served by a few such specialists. Two of them build their products in India.

Every company named here has posted software engineering jobs in India. Famous companies that don't actively hire software engineers in India are left out.

  • Donations, members and fees
Donations, members and fees Momentive Softwarewith engineers in Pune, sells software to American nonprofits and membership bodies. It covers fundraising and donor management, fund accounting and association management. Daxkowith engineers in Delhi and Mumbai, sells membership, scheduling and accounting software to YMCAs, community centres and fitness clubs. The YMCA is a large nonprofit that runs community and fitness centres, especially in America. (More on booking and membership software for gyms and fitness studios in Market Segment 15.6, Field service and appointment booking software, in Industry Vertical 15, Customer service and CX.) The donor who is understood.

Nonprofits depend on thousands of donors, but they have too few staff to know each one. AI models now write appeals for donations, predict who will give, and summarise a donor's history before a call. For small organisations, AI is the fundraising team they could not afford.

That is software for organisations that are neither companies nor government. It is a market of many small buyers, with needs that ordinary business software does not meet. The two specialists here build for American nonprofits and membership bodies from Pune, Delhi and Mumbai.
