SAP engineers in the services world

A role across the services world, every Company Tier together, Accenture left out. Accenture alone posts more than ten times as much SAP work as the rest of the services world put together, so for an SAP engineer it is the largest single employer by far; its SAP hiring is described with the rest of its hiring on its own.

The short answer

SAP is the system that runs a large company's orders, stock, purchasing and accounts, and putting it in, extending it and moving it to its newest version, S/4HANA, is one of the oldest businesses of Indian IT services. Outside Accenture, SAP engineers are a modest role in the services world, but at several times their weight at product companies, because product companies rarely build on SAP while services firms do it for their clients. The work sits at the giants above all, IBM first through the winter of 2025, with TCS, Infosys, Capgemini, CGI, EPAM and the platform houses among the specialist firms, like YASH Technologies and Birlasoft, beside them. The postings require SAP and ABAP, with Fiori and SAPUI5 for screens, HANA and S/4HANA, and SAP's tools for documents and for exchanging data with other systems. SAP hiring fell sharply in early 2026 as IBM stopped posting it, and TCS brought it back a little in July to September 2026. It is the hardest platform role to fill, and the door is narrow, with almost no openings for freshers.

Where the work sits

The giants hold most of it.

Company Tier 1, The IT services giants, posts most of the services world's SAP openings, above its services weight. IBM posted the largest part, then TCS and Infosys, with Capgemini behind. For IBM, which the narrative names for business platforms, SAP is a sizeable part of everything it posts.

The quiet foreign majors and the specialist firms hire it at about the services rate.

CGI and NTT DATA among the foreign majors, and Birlasoft and YASH Technologies, the platform houses among the specialist firms, hire SAP engineers steadily.

EY stands out among the consulting arms. SAP is a larger part of EY's hiring than of any other firm's here, matching the narrative's description of EY as the end of the practice that puts systems in. Tech Mahindra and Unisys also post SAP as a notable part of their hiring.

The build firms hire some, almost all at EPAM. The mid-sized firms, like Virtusa and Mphasis, the small shops, like AgileEngine and Wissen Technology, and the engineering-services firms, like Quest Global and L&T Technology Services, hire very little.

What the work is

SAP engineering in services is technical work on the platform. The postings require:

ABAP, SAP's programming language, in nearly every posting, with ALV for reports.

Fiori and SAPUI5, for the screens people use.

HANA and S/4HANA, SAP's database and newest version, and Core Data Services for the data models on top of them, with SAP ECC, the older version, where a client is still moving across.

SmartForms and SAPscript, for printed documents such as invoices and delivery notes.

BAPI and IDoc, for exchanging data with other systems, and the BTP Integration Suite for connecting SAP to the cloud.

Materials Management, the purchasing and stock part of SAP, in a part of the postings, which want someone who knows the business process as well as the code.

A notable part of the postings also require Java with Spring Boot, JavaScript and a deployment pipeline, for the systems that sit around SAP.

None of the SAP postings ask for experience with language models.

Bengaluru has most of the work. Kolkata, unusually, is the second city for SAP, level with Hyderabad.

What is changing

These readings follow the record quarter by quarter, from October to December 2025, the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, to July to September 2026, the second quarter of 2026-27. A longer record will show whether they last.

SAP hiring fell further than services hiring as a whole

Openings fell steeply into January to March 2026 and again into April to June, so SAP's share of services hiring shrank. It came back a little in July to September 2026.

IBM stopped, TCS returned

IBM, which posted most SAP work in the winter of 2025, posted almost none after March 2026, and Infosys very little. TCS posted more SAP in July to September 2026 than in any earlier quarter, and CGI and EPAM kept hiring from January to June 2026.

Persistently open roles

SAP jobs are persistently open far more often than services jobs overall, among the most of any platform role. When one is posted again, its first and last postings are typically about three weeks apart, and rarely more than seven weeks.

Birlasoft, NTT DATA, EPAM and IBM post the same SAP job again most often.

SAP with modern engineering is hardest to find. The SAP jobs posted again most often also require Java and Spring Boot, TypeScript and a deployment pipeline, or SAP's document tools SAPscript and SmartForms.

The door

SAP's door is narrow. There are no entry-level SAP openings outside Accenture, junior openings are well under the services rate, and mid-level openings are the clear majority, with staff-level openings more common than usual.

Juniors get in at the giants, Infosys and Capgemini, and at NTT DATA and YASH Technologies, in small numbers.

The build firms and the quiet foreign majors are the most senior. The specialist firms are the most mid-level, the likeliest door for an engineer with a couple of years of SAP behind them.

If you know SAP and ABAP, the services world hires you at several times the rate of product companies, at the giants and the platform houses, but outside Accenture it wants experience, it has hired less since IBM stopped, and the jobs it posts are among the hardest to fill.
