Hotel management and revenue software The hotel's back office, selling the same room on every channel at the right price Think of a beach hotel in Goa. It sells the same room on its own website, on dozens of travel sites, and to companies at agreed rates. Each of these places is called a channel. The price changes every day. If two people book its last room at the same moment on two different sites, the hotel has sold one room twice. Its software must keep every channel in step, so that never happens. One last room, two travel sites, the same moment: without a channel manager the hotel sells one room twice; with it, the room is closed on every site the moment it sells. One last room, two travel sites, the same moment: without a channel manager the hotel sells one room twice; with it, the room is closed on every site the moment it sells.

The software behind this does five jobs:

The property management systemor PMS, is the hotel's main system. It holds the rooms, the bookings, check-in and check-out, and the guest's bill. The channel managerkeeps the room's price and availability the same on every travel site. Revenue managementsets the price of each room, from forecasts of how many people will want it. The booking enginetakes bookings on the hotel's own website. Guest CRM, loyalty and marketingkeep the guest coming back. A CRM holds the hotel's record of every guest. The hotel's five systems around the property management system: the channel manager, revenue management, the booking engine and guest CRM and loyalty, with the companies in this Market Segment that sell each. The hotel's five systems around the property management system: the channel manager, revenue management, the booking engine and guest CRM and loyalty, with the companies in this Market Segment that sell each.

The buyers are hotels, from single independent hotels to large hotel groups. Several of the companies that sell this software are Indian. The travel sites where the rooms are sold are covered in Market Segment 29.1, Online travel agencies (OTAs).

Every company named here has posted software engineering jobs in India. Famous companies that don't actively hire software engineers in India are left out.

Back to the beach hotel in Goa from the start of this Market Segment. Here are the companies whose software could be running it.

Pricing, data and marketing

Cendynsells hotels their guest CRM, revenue management and digital marketing. It has engineers in Hyderabad, and the most job postings in this Market Segment. RateGainis an Indian company whose shares are traded on the stock market in Mumbai. It sells hotels, airlines and car-rental companies data on their competitors' prices. It also sells the connections that send their prices to the travel sites, and the marketing around them. It has engineers in Delhi. IDeaS Revenue Solutionssets hotel room prices from forecasts of demand. It has engineers in Pune.

The independent hotel's systems. An independent hotel is one that is not part of a chain.

Hotelogixsells a cloud property management system to independent hotels. It has engineers in Bengaluru. SiteMindersells the channel manager. It has engineers in Pune. Simplotelsells the hotel's own website and booking engine. It has engineers in Bengaluru.

Loyalty

Loyalty Juggernautsells the loyalty platform of hotel groups and airlines: the points and rewards that bring guests back. It has engineers in Hyderabad. (More on loyalty programmes in Market Segment 13.7, Loyalty and rewards platforms, in Industry Vertical 13, Martech.)

Holiday rentals. Two companies here work on holiday homes rather than hotels.

Airbticsworks on data and analytics for holiday rentals. It has engineers in Bengaluru. Silkhausmanages short-term rental homes for their owners. It has engineers in Bengaluru. Silkhaus is covered mainly in another Market Segment. (More on it in Market Segment 41.5, Coworking and co-living spaces, in Industry Vertical 41, Proptech.) The room priced by the hour.

Hotels used to set room prices once a day, from forecasts. Now AI models change the price all the time, based on competitors' rates and on what travellers are searching for. The channel managers then push each new price to every travel site at once. The same kind of pricing is reaching holiday rentals, where Airbtics and Silkhaus work.

That is how the beach hotel in Goa sells its rooms. One system holds the bookings, another keeps every travel site in step, and a model sets the price.
