On this page
What Meta hires for Meta, one of the five companies in the big-tech collection. Every comparison here is with product companies as a whole, since Meta builds and sells its own products. The short answer Meta posts very few software engineering openings in India, far fewer than the other four big tech companies, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Apple, even though India is one of the largest markets for WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. Much of Meta's work in India is with its users, advertisers and businesses rather than in engineering. What little engineering it does post is mostly for devices. Embedded engineers who work on Android's platform and on firmware, the software that runs directly on a chip, make up most of it, in Hyderabad, likely for Reality Labs, which builds Meta's Quest headsets and its smart glasses. A few mobile, full-stack, chip design and Java openings make up the rest, mostly in Bengaluru. Meta posted almost all of these openings between January and March 2026, and none after April 2026. Who gets hired, and why Embedded firmware Mobile Also present

Embedded firmware engineers. Meta's headsets and glasses run their own version of Android on custom hardware. Embedded engineers work on that platform and on the firmware beneath it. The postings require AOSP, the open version of Android, with the Android framework and its hardware layer, the Linux kernel, device drivers and board support packages, real-time operating systems, microcontrollers and bootloaders, and some require Bluetooth. Most require testing the firmware too. These are mostly senior roles, all in Hyderabad, and they are much the largest part of what Meta posts.

Mobile, full-stack and Java engineers. A few openings in Bengaluru and Hyderabad build Android apps and the web and mobile screens around Meta's products, in Java, Kotlin and JavaScript with React and React Native.

Also present. Chip designers work in Bengaluru on FPGA and ASIC designs with Ethernet and TCP/IP. A few generalist software engineer openings, at staff level, ask for Java, Python, C/C++ and JavaScript, and a cloud and DevOps opening asks for Linux and AWS.

Rare here. GenAI and ML engineers, data engineers, test engineers, security software engineers and every packaged-platform role do not appear at all, despite Meta's work on its Llama models and on Meta AI.

What is changing

These readings follow the record quarter by quarter, from October to December 2025, the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, to July to September 2026, the second quarter of 2026-27. A longer record will show whether they last.

Meta hired briefly and then stoppedMeta posted a handful of openings in October to December 2025, nearly all of its openings in January to March 2026, a last few in April 2026, and none from May to September 2026. Product companies kept hiring through those months, though they roughly halved their openings between April to June and July to September 2026. The device work came lastThe October to December 2025 openings were for mobile and Java work. The device firmware openings came from January 2026 onwards, and they were the last openings Meta posted.
Where the work is

Meta's openings are split between Hyderabad, home of its first Indian office, and Bengaluru. Hyderabad holds the device firmware work, the cloud opening and a mobile opening. Bengaluru holds the chip design, full-stack, Java, generalist and the rest of the mobile openings.

The door

Meta's few openings are mostly for experienced engineers, senior above all, with some at mid level and staff level. The only opening for a newcomer was an entry-level Android role in Bengaluru, posted at the end of 2025.

In one line Meta is one of the biggest names in Indian internet use but one of the smallest engineering employers in big tech here; when it does hire, it is mostly for firmware and Android platform engineers in Hyderabad. Terms used on this page Firmware Software that runs directly on a chip inside a device. AOSP The Android Open Source Project, the open version of Android that device makers build on. Reality Labs Meta's division that builds its Quest headsets and smart glasses. Board support package The low-level software that lets an operating system run on a particular device. Real-time operating system A small operating system that responds within a guaranteed time, used in devices. FPGA and ASIC A chip that can be reprogrammed after it is made, and a chip designed for one purpose. Llama and Meta AI Meta's own AI models, which others can download, and its AI assistant.
